The Autodesk Education Community reached the two million student and educator members mark in February 2011! Those members represent 20.954 schools, from 153 countries, and 2,67 million serial numbers issued. Not only is the Education Community the largest at Autodesk, but it is also the second most visited Autodesk web property and growing every day.
With millions of students across the globe, Autodesk recognized the opportunity to influence the next generation of customers and users of our software. We needed a scalable model to create awareness of Autodesk and provide access to our products and learning materials to as many of these students as possible, and to support efforts in the classroom.
The Education Community was launched in 2006 and became Autodesk’s (and the industry’s) first property to provide high volume electronic download of Autodesk software. Since that time, we have continued to improve the download experience for students and educators and expand the offering of learning materials and products available for free.
The community has also grown to include features such as a career center and a gallery where students can share designs with peers, as well as a dedicated Community site for the China market. To drive students to the Community, we employ campus promotions and marketing campaigns, and have tight connections with other communities and social networking sites like facebook and renren.com. We continue to bring students back with monthly promotions of new downloads, content, and learning tools.
